glass

The first glass was natural obsidian from volcanoes, used long ago to make arrowheads, knives, jewelry, etc. Glass is a melding of the four Classical elements: Through fire and air, silica is transmuted into a molten liquid, only to return to its solid earthly state. Metaphysically, glass carries the energies of transformation, rebirth, focus, and communication.

sand

Sand is finely ground quartz, silica, and other geological materials, including gemstones. It is dually symbolic of microcosm and macrocosm—a single grain and an entire beach. Though not as stable as other types of earth, like granite, it still grounds and centers, and stands for balance and, yes, stability. Sand is a metaphor for the passage of time, whether in allusion to the hourglass or to eventual destruction, as great mountains and pyramids turn to sand over time. Or it can refer to something that exists only briefly, like words written in sand to be erased by the tide.

shells

Shells are, of course, strongly associated with the element of water, as well as the moon, which drives ocean tides. Since both of these strong feminine energies are receptive in nature, use shells to draw things you want into your life. (Bonus feminine motif: Shells and their spiral shapes act as symbols of goddesses in different belief systems.) In nature, a shell keeps small, defenseless sea creatures safe from harm. Because of this, shells have strong protective energies, and many coastal cultures have used them in folk magic traditions, placing strings of shells over windows and doors to protect the home.

granite

Granite is composed primarily of quartz and feldspar. It is an igneous rock and is formed from magma. This stone is a great balancer of water and earth (emotions and practicality). Earth helps water to keep its deep emotions in check. This incredible stone works on both the Base/Root and Sacral/Spleen Chakra as it grounds unstable or unsure emotions. Granite is wonderful for allowing for increased protection and abundance. A wonderful relationship balancer,  this stone works well on scepticism. It allows for diplomacy, discretion and cooperativeness.
